How To Become A Life Coach
If you have a passion for helping others, and you want to make an abundant income by doing so, becoming a Certified Life Coach is a great way to do it.
Life Coaching is one of the fastest-growing, 6-figure business models in the world, but there’s a lot of mystery surrounding what they are, what they do, and how to become one.
On this page, I’m going to help you understand what a coach does, what it takes to be one, and how to become one.
Why Become a Life Coach?
Life Coaching is great way to improve both your clients’ lives and your own life. For starters, many coaches make very a lucrative career salary.
It improves your clients’ lives by helping them understand what would make them truly happy, so they don’t spend years chasing a goal that they think will bring them joy, only to find themselves successful but unfulfilled.
As a coach, you would help them discover what is holding them back from their dreams, break free from those obstacles, and heal the wounds that are limiting them.
You’d also guide them through the process of creating a plan by which even seemingly impossible goals can be realized, faster than they thought possible.
Through this process, you’ll get to watch people break free from cycles of suffering that have kept them trapped for years, and you’ll witness their joy as they experience the dream life that had seemed to be out of their reach.
And it improves your life by allowing you to earn a 6-7-figure income, in fewer hours than you’d spend on a 9-5 job, by doing work you love.
This frees you up to spend time with your family and yourself, to take care of your relationships and your health, and to create the lifestyle you desire, instead of the life that you believe your circumstances ‘allow’.
On top of this, by getting trained as a coach, you’ll discover how to use the universal principles of success in your own life, so you can accomplish any goal with less time and effort than it would normally require.
In short, by becoming a coach, you empower yourself and others to fulfill your purposes and to create the lives of your dreams, no matter how big or impossible they seem.
And when people are living out the purpose they were born for, they make a HUGE impact on the world. Imagine the ripple effect you could create by helping even a few dozen people fulfill their life’s purpose – and then imagine that multiplied by a hundred or more!
How do you know if you should be a life coach?
If you’re wondering if this is the right path for you, here are a few questions you can ask yourself:
“Do I have wisdom and experiences I want to share? Do I want to know how to share them in a way that changes lives?”
“Do I want to see other people succeed? Am I tired of seeing people struggle through lives that are less than they were meant for, while the love, abundance, impact and freedom they desire is always out of reach?”
“Do I want to understand the principles of success? Do I want to know what separates the successful from the unsuccessful, so I can use that knowledge to improve the lives of my clients and myself?”
“Do I want to create a big impact in the world?”
“Am I ready to take bold action to create the life of my dreams, and to help others to do the same?”
If the answer to those questions is “yes” - if you want to use the wisdom you have, cultivate even greater wisdom, and take action to help yourself and others to create the lives of your dreams, then personal coaching might well be your ideal career.
But, having said that, it isn’t for everyone.
There are some challenges you will face as you grow your coaching business, and some firm decisions that you’ll have to make.
To begin with, if you want to become a spiritual personal development coach or accomplish anything else significant in your life, you MUST decide when you start out that you WILL make it work.
There may be times when you aren’t sure what your next move will be, or you don’t know if a product launch will work out or if you’ll get enough clients.
There might be people in your life who don’t think you can succeed as a coach, and doubts and fears WILL come to mind as you start to build your business.
This is normal, and it happens to everyone when they decide to build something new. You want to be ready to face these challenges with optimism and determination – and, more importantly, you also want make sure that you aren’t facing them alone.
To succeed as a coach, surround yourself with people who support you and your dreams, and find mentors to teach you how to attract and coach your clients so you don’t have to reinvent the wheel.
Building a new business of any kind is an adventure, but the rewards of being a coach are well worth it.
If you want to learn more about what it’s like to be a coach, and to get an idea of how the whole process works, I invite you to fill out the form below and set up a time to speak with one of my enrollment mentors.
They will answer any questions you have, and help you decide whether becoming a coach is right for you.
Do You Need to Get Certified to be a Life Coach?
In some parts of the world, you can legally become a coach without getting certified. But if you do, you will not be fully equipped to help your clients, and you could end up doing more harm than good in your attempts to change their lives.
You see, while your own wisdom and experiences are great assets in the process of coaching people, there are other ingredients you MUST have in place before you’re able to really help them.
To start with, you need to learn how to help your clients understand their real desires, so they know what it is that they truly want, and they can move toward those goals with certainty that what they’re working for is something that will make them happy.
You must also be able to help them discover the obstacles that are holding them back from their dreams, guide them to create clear, specific, actionable plans for overcoming those challenges and creating the results and transformation they desire.
And, most importantly, you’ll want to understand the invisible, universal principles of success, because these are the single biggest factor in determining whether or not you AND your clients will succeed. Without this piece of the puzzle, no amount of planning, action or mindset work will bring your clients the results they truly desire, so you CANNOT start coaching without this.
If you don’t know how to do these things, you could end up wasting a lot of your clients’ time and money, risk a reputation as a coach who doesn’t get results, and possibly even prevent people from creating the lives they’re working for.
But if you get trained and certified by someone who really knows what they’re doing, the credibility that comes with that certification will help to get more clients in less time, and the knowledge you gain from it will enable you to give them fast, amazing results.
A high-quality certification process will also teach you how to apply the principles of success to your own life, as well as equipping you not just to serve clients, but also to attract them. After all, you want to improve your own life while you’re helping other people, and it does no good for you to know how to coach people if you’ve got no one to coach!
What Do You Need to Know in Order to Be a Life Coach?
To be a high-quality mentor, there are several important laws and principles that you want to understand, and beliefs that you must cultivate.
Let’s start with the Law of Attraction, as well as the Laws of Action and Proximity. If you don’t know what these are or how to apply them to your clients’ lives, plan on getting trained in these areas before you start coaching.
You’ll also want to learn how to help your clients match the vibration of their minds and emotions to the vibrations of the life and circumstances they want, and you’ll want to learn to teach them to clearly identify the people, situations or objects they desire.
And you must firmly believe that EVERYONE is capable of creating the lives and situations they desire, and that the universe is a friendly and abundant place. Everything that happens to us is somehow designed to work in our favor, and to deeply understand this and be able to pass that understanding on to your clients will insure your success as someone's life mentor.
If you’re missing any of these beliefs or fields of expertise, don’t give up. This does not automatically mean that you can’t be a coach. But it DOES mean you need to get trained by an expert before you can start serving clients.
If you want to become a coach, or to learn more about the process and requirements of becoming one, I invite you to fill out the form below. How Do You Start the Process of Becoming a Life Coach?
First, find a certification program that fits your needs.
To determine whether a certification program has what you need, the first thing you’ll do is to check whether it has systems for learning, implementation and support.
What do I mean by that?
A system for learning is a process by which a program helps you absorb its information deep into your consciousness. It’s not enough to hear something once, to have a surface-level understanding of it, and then to move on to the next lesson and forget a lot of what you just learned.
The program you choose to be certified in, and the one you will use on your clients, needs to be designed in a way that makes its knowledge not just a file in your brain, but something that you deeply understand, and that causes you to live differently because of that understanding.
A system for implementation helps you to integrate what you’ve learned into your everyday life. The last thing anybody needs is ANOTHER piece of “shelf-help” that doesn’t create real change, so both you and your clients will need clear, actionable guidance to help you turn your knowledge into tangible improvements in your day-to-day life.
A system for support is a mentor, a group of people, or both who hold you accountable to your actions and dreams, help you overcome your doubts, and offer you continuing guidance and support as you move toward the life you desire.
If you or your clients try to do things alone, you’ll end up slipping back into your past routine, getting caught in your old habits, or allowing doubt, discouragement or fear to slow you down or bring you to a halt. So it’s vital to have people who will help you stay motivated and inspired, and keep your forward progress going strong.
On top of those three systems, to support your growth as a new coach, the certification program you choose must also teach you how to handle the business side of your coaching.
It should teach you how to attract clients, coach them in a way that frees up your time, and either handle the marketing, bookkeeping, software and business side of things, or build a team that will take care of those things for you.
And, if you want to save yourself months or even years of work, I strongly recommend that you find a program that includes a pre-made curriculum you can use to teach multiple clients at the same time.
That way, you can hit the ground running with a proven, time-tested system, instead of working your way up from nothing and getting stuck in an hours-for-dollars cycle of coaching 1-on-1, while you’re creating a program or course.
How Does the Life Mastery Institute Certification Process Work?

Then, once the initial web training is over, attend my certification training event, during which you’ll complete your certification process in only three days, with five meals and lodging for two nights included in the price of admission.
